Meeting place , a show by Javier Guerra and René Rodríguez, is a custom operation, a scanning to verify points of contact, connections, links, etc., etc., in the work of these two creators. It is a check point that, with procedures unlike the “real” ones in use, is gone through with great pleasure.
All of a sudden the officer frowns, as if detecting some anomaly in the documents. Then he smiles looking at the artists and in his eyes we see that everything is in order: he understood the wink.

Reinerio Tamayo: Laughing on the brink of a crying breakdown

Ammunition boxes pile up one on top of the other forming the steps of Kukulkán, the Mayan pyramid at Chichen Itzá. This would look like the millennial Great Wall of China when watched from above. It is a long caravan of war vehicles. Instead of the Christ on Rio de Janeiro’s mount, (there is) a soldier armed to the teeth; Machu Picchu, on top of the mountains of the Inca Cuzco, taken by a military air base. Reconverted, the Roman Coliseum is heliport for combat ships. Behind the door of Petra, in Jordan, the army shelters in an equipped bunker. The magnificent Taj Mahal is used as port for nuclear submarines. In this way, Reinerio Tamayo has depicted the New Seven Wonders of the World.

A very heavy volume threatens with breaking the thread that holds it from the ceiling of the place; the book is titled New Cuban Art. Anthology of Critical Texts; and Magaly Espinosa have called this installation "Como la mala hierba” (“Like weeds"). Perhaps, as any other one, this work summarizes the self-parodic vocation of an exhibition whose title, Revenge, seemed to suggest a revenge of the theoretical ones; this is to say, of the enunciators of the value or the sense of the art work, versus creators who are the subject of their analytic work or hermeneutics.

Havana is sprouting new galleries

La Historia en la Memoria (History in the Memory), as title is pompous and cacophonous, but rather convenient for an exhibition that chooses the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the Grand Theater of Havana, to reopen a Gallery housed in the magnificent building in front of the Central Park that carries besides the name of Orígenes (Origins).
Having been usually dedicated to the spreading of artistic works conceived on bi-dimensional support, the selection of the pieces for the reopening homage-exhibition backslides toward the pictorial technique, and also resorts to the catalogue of artists that in national premises are known today as "consecrated."
